Hello I’m Maia, thank you for visiting me here!

I am an artist and designer. My passion and skills range from abstract paintings to print design of various forms. From a young age I have always been mesmerised by colour and patterns which has never stopped as I’ve grown up. Painting in particular has always been a focus, almost seeming like a second language to me. Through my artistic education I subsequently found my artistic voice and unique styles which took me on a journey onto finding my career pathway.

Navigating my way around a blank canvas can always be daunting, however I always seem to tackle it very quickly by throwing some colours on straight away to deter the anxiety of the first mark. That’s where the world of abstract art took over my practice. Allowing me to be as free as possible with different markings and colour to express what I was feeling at that very moment, low or high. Commissioned pieces became a new territory, understanding the moods and emotions of others to then portraying them onto a canvas, for their homes or desired places. I loved this and it then became a recurrent part of my journey.

I studied textiles at Central Saint Martin’s and fell completely in love with the incredible, versatile, out of the ordinary world of textiles. From the in-depth understanding of colour, the never-ending techniques and processes, to the various ways in which textiles is always around us, I was so excited of all the possibilities textiles could bring to me. I then specialised in print design where I could indulge fully in my obsession for colour and patterns.

At the core of all my practices, whether that would’ve been when I was at university or if I’m at home, sustainability and my every touch and movement on the planet has and always will be extremely important to me. Being part of an industry that can be at the forefront of disaster for our planet, we have a huge responsibility to create with respect to our planet. Discovering eco-friendly methods, being resourceful with what’s around us and using all we already have rather than overusing and wasting is the first way of approaching this.

As consumers we also all have a responsibility to consume wisely and not to be greedy at the cost of the planet, therefore whatever I produce, I want it to be important and special enough to never be regarded as waste. As an artist I feel I have a right to help educate and open minds to what a no-waste world within the art and design community could look like. I want to evoke emotion from my pieces that can help us in our everyday life, whether it to solely bring us joy or to be a crucial part of our living. I believe one day we will ALL be able to fix the beautiful planet we live on whilst enjoying the beautiful world of art and design.
